“Every day feels like loonie dog day!” remarked lifelong Blue Jays fan Anthony Sortini. “They’re on a great run, and yeah historically they’ve been down this road, but there’s no reason to think it won’t keep going the rest of the year!”
After compiling the best record in the AL East over the last month, the Blue Jays find themselves in the first wild card spot in the American League. All this with a key injury to newly acquired Anthony Santander and inconsistent performances in the rotation and line up. This has the bandwagon more full than Amsterdam Brew Pub on a Saturday night, as all reasonable doubts are cast aside like a jersey on Scotiabank ice.
Asked what he thinks the current run of play portends stating pitcher Kevin Gausman was optimistic. “We’re excited. We’ve put ourselves in a good spot, just like we’ve done before, and this time I think we’ll be better positioned to make a run.” And based on the previous experience of several wild card playoff rounds, how could they not?
“This year just feels different” Pauline Turner notes. “If there's one thing sports in this city has taught us, it's that all those past learning experiences inevitably lead to better things.” With the season approaching the midway point the Jays and their fans are optimistic they can get in and continue the grand Toronto tradition of early playoff exits.
